Prayer is a communication between the Heavenly Father and His child on earth. Prayer is the food for spiritual growth. It helps us to realize the Father’s spiritual existence in our life. It leads us to follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Trust in HIM. Trust in God who loves you more than anyone in this world. When you pray, just believe God will answer your prayer.
And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith. (Matthew 21:22)
But when you pray, you exercise so little faith. Genuine faith will remove mountains of material difficulty which may chance to lie in the path of soul expansion and spiritual progress. (UB 144:2.6)
Pray in spirit. The Holy Spirit will teach you and guide your life. The Holy Spirit will help you realize what is good and what is bad for you. When you pray… pray in spirit.. then you can realize the Father’s presence in your mind.
But you, beloved, build yourselves up on your most holy faith; pray in the Holy Spirit; (Jude 1:20)
Your persistence, however, is not to win favor with God but to change your earth attitude and to enlarge your soul’s capacity for spirit receptivity. (UB 144:2.5)
Pray for those you love. Once you have entered into the love and light of God you must bring your brothers and sisters who live in darkness with you. Pray for their spiritual growth.
I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; (Matthew 5:44)
Prayer must be unselfish and humble in front of the Father. Close the doors of your room then pray to God. That means that when you pray… open your heart to God… concentrate on the Father… listen to Him. Don’t look at your surroundings. The Father never blesses you for your sacrifices or offerings. The Father doesn’t need them because He created everything and He owns everything so the Father doesn’t need anything from you except your wholehearted love. Love of the Heavenly Father is a light in your life. Darkness can’t defeat light… when the light comes darkness goes away… it can’t exist in front of light. (Matthew 6:6)
Prayer is an amazing feeling in our heart. It can’t be explained though words; we must experience it.
Why Do I Want to Pray?
In the beginning, before I learned to pray, I read the Bible and thought about it. But I was missing something. All of the negatives, the small problems in my life seemed so big in front of me at that time. I often felt angry, sad and uncomfortable.
When I began praying all of those negatives and small problems faded into the background and my small positives became bigger and more important in my life. I started to feel the love of my Father. When I began to get blessings from Him I said thanks. I started to share everything about my life with my Father in Heaven. It gave a new strength in my life, a more confident mind. I felt that whatever happens to me my Father will never forsake me, then why do I feel angry, sad or scared about anything? My Father loves me more than anybody in this world. This is such a great feeling; it offers hope in anyone’s life. Because life becomes based upon LOVE.
Prayer changed my whole character. I read that anger is not good but I actually only understood that when I started to pray. Before, even though I knew that anger wasn’t good, still I would get angry at my parents, my brother, my sister, relatives, friends. I was angry… no change. But after I wanted to pray, whenever I had been angry with anyone I found I couldn’t pray; when I started my prayer on my knees I felt heart pain and my mind was either blank or stirring like a pot. I stopped trying to pray and went to see my mother and told her I was sorry I had been angry at her. Then I came back for my prayer and was successful.
So I had all of that knowledge working in my mind but once I started to commune with my Father slowly it started to make a difference within me. I feel my Father’s spritual caring… and the Holy Spirit’s guidance.
How Do I Pray?
Prayer is a conversation between the Heavenly Father and His child on Earth. It becomes a powerful connection between my mind and my Heavenly Father. The Bible says that our body is the temple of God. I think our mind is like a church where we praise our Father, talk to Him and feel His presence too. So we are not just a material being… I am not just an Angel John. I am also a daughter of God, a powerful identity.
Long long ago, people saw the Heavenly Father just like a king, a stern ruler and people feared him. The Bible is filled with admonitions to “fear the Lord.” But when Jesus came to this world, he showed a beautiful face of the Father… a Father’s love to His child. His loving face. Just imagine, a Father who is always looking forward to His child talking to Him, to spend a little time with Him. Fear of the Lord became “love for the Lord.”
It’s easy to begin praying by simply reading something spiritually uplifting… like the Bible, The Urantia Book, or any other good book. Then I just close my eyes and think how what I’ve read talks to me. The Bible was written 1000s of years ago but it is not a history, it’s about my present too. If I am ready to listen God will talk to me through my book. When I read, I just think that the Father wants to talk to me… yes Father is talking to me. Listen to Him… He is a loving parent… He never likes to see my tears… He will be with me always. But I must realize it first… then activate my mind to catch the love signals from the Father.
When I pray I am not formal because I am talking to my Father. I talk to the Father in Heaven just like I talk to my amma or pappa. My Heavenly Father loves me more than my father and mother. I just tell the Father my needs and give them to Him with “Not my will, but Your will be done.” My will is always related to my present situation but our Father’s will relates to our good future too.
Pray for your friends, your neighbors, your enemies. Once they’ve got the blessing remember to say thanks to God. Fix a personal prayer time every day and talk to your Father everyday. Say thanks for His blessing in your life, tell him what you want. Inform Him what you like and what you don’t like. Pray for His divine knowledge. If you’ve made any mistakes, intentional or unintentional during the day, ask for forgiveness and ask Him to bless you to not do it again. Because we are weak… but if the Father is with us we are strong.
Sometimes our prayers don’t become true suddenly because our Father has a right time for everything. Our right time may not be the right time of the Father. Father gives everything at the right time; you must have patience until that time.
Jesus taught that effective prayer must be:
1. Unselfish—not only for oneself.
2. Believing—based upon faith.
3. Sincere—honest of heart.
4. Intelligent—according to light.
5. Trustful—in submission to the Father’s all-wise will.
Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary, his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. (Isaiah 40:28-31)
Prayer is a Power
Every day is a gift. So start your morning with the Father. That’s a great thing to do, a great way to begin the day. And before you go to bed read some spiritually uplifting messages… spend a little time with Father. I know people who have a good spritual mind; they can always be with God and also the Father is always with them (you and me too). But see, we gave our time for everything else… for our children, parents, work, everything… our 24 hours are divided so many ways… cooking, taking care of the family, taking care of ourselves, our work etc. Why don’t we spend at least 10 minutes with our Father who gave us the blessing of this life? He has given us a beautiful 24 hours every day, why don’t we spend at least 10 minutes just with Him?
When we are at work we can pray to God in our mind; I do that and it is a beautiful thing to do. But at that time our concentration is on our work. So it is good to spend dedicated personal time with the Father. Listen to him, read something worthwhile and think about how it talks to you spiritually.
The Father is always with you. But you want to accept Him and open the door of your life for Him. Pray for others… our Father always likes that. Teach your children how to pray. Personal prayers help you to be a better person and family prayer helps your family to become an even better one. Father’s love signal is always in front of your heart. Open your heart and respond to it. Listen to His messages. And pray for a better life. Make yourself a perfect sheep for the good shepherd.
